ETHEL RISSER

Ethel Risser was born to Ephraim and Mary Horst Risser at Peabody, Kan. on May 7, 1913. After her mother’s death in 1917, she was cared for by her maternal grandparents, the Frank Horsts, until the marriage of her father to Emma King in 1921.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ella and Beulah. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Emma Risser of Hesston, Kan., a sister, Margaret Thaxton of St. Petersburg, Fla., a brother Eldon of Denver, Colo., four nieces and one nephew.

Her childhood was spent in the Hesston community. She attended Hesston College, Chicago Evangelistic Institute and the States University at Emporia, Kan. She taught in the Kansas school system for nearly 30 years, the last 18 in Manhattan, Kan.

Ethel was a member of the Pennsylvania Mennonite Church and was later affiliated with the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Manhattan. She had made a deep commitment of her Christian faith and experienced the reality of God's love and peace and divine guidance in her daily living. This was exemplified by her devoted care of her mother, her dedication to her work in teaching children and by activities in her church. She expressed her readiness to go to her eternal home.

Her earthly sojourn was ended Jan. 20, 1970.

Funeral services were conducted at the Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston, on Jan. 23, in charge of Jerry Weaver and Earl Buckwalter. Interment was made in the Pennsylvania Cemetery.
