OKLAHOMA WOMAN FATALLY INJURED WHEN TRUCK OVERTURNS, CATCHES FIRE

Goltry, Okla. — Funeral services were held at the Zoar Mennonite church here on Sunday afternoon, Sept 26, for Mrs. Ben (Sophina) Richert, 39, who suffered fatal burns in a highway accident north of Elkhart, Kansas on Friday evening.

Mrs. Richert and her husband were returning from Colorado, where they had seeded their wheat land, when their implement loaded truck overturned and caught fire. Mr. Richert was able to free himself and also his wife, but she passed away at the Elkhart hospital the following morning, Sept, 25.

The survivors include three children, Obera Jean, a student at Bethel College, and Roger Dean and Carol Kay at home; her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

MRS. SOPHINA RICHERT

Mrs. (Sophina) Ben Richert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Smith, was born Nov. 20, 1908, northwest of Meno, Okla.

On Nov. 6, 1927, she was united in marriage to Ben Richert, to which union were born three children, one son and two daughters.

On May 23, 1926, she was baptized by Rev. J. J. Ratzlaff, and joined the Zoar Mennonite church of Goltry. She has remained a faithful Christian until death.

On the evening of Sept. 22, 1948, she and her husband met with an accident about eight miles north of Elkhart, Kansas while coming home from the west where they had some land. The truck which they were driving overturned. The truck and the implements loaded on it caught on fire. Mr. Richert succeeded in freeing himself and also her from the truck, but she was not able to rally from the severe burns and passed away at 5:30 a. m. Sept. 23 in the Elkhart hospital, at the age of 39 years, 10 months and three days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and children, Obera Jean, Roger Dean and Carol Kay, all at home; her parents, two brothers, Edwin at Enid, and Harvey at Ringwood; two sisters, Lorina at home and Mrs. (Elizabeth) Wedel at Ringwood; nine uncles and three aunts. Two sisters, Alvina and Evelyn, preceded her in death.

Her chief concern and desire was to lead her children to the Lord. Before she passed away she strongly emphasized that her children should live for the Lord.
