SERVICES AT REEDLEY FOR RETIRED GROCER

Reedley, Calif. — Funeral services were conducted at the Mennonite Brethren church here Nov. 19 for Peter P. Richert, well-known retired grocer and a resident of Reedley for 44 years. He died at his home Nov. 16 after a long illness.

A native of Russia, he leaves his wife, Annie, four daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

PETER P. RICHERT

Peter P. Richert, the son of Peter and Aganetha (Quiring) Richert, was born on Sept. 3, 1872, in the village of Kleefeld, South Russia. He quietly departed this life at his home in Reedley, Calif. early on Friday morning, Nov. 16, 1956, to be forever with his Creator and Redeemer. he attained to the age of 84 years, two months, and 13 days.

He was not quite two years old when he came to America with his parents in August of 1874. They made their home in Marion County, Kansas, in the Goessel community.

Mr. Richert joined hands with Miss Annie Ewert in holy wedlock on oct.15, 1899, at Goessel. It was their privilege to share the many blessings and battles of life for more than 57 years. This union was blessed with four daughters.

They made their first home in Goessel, Kansas, where he had a grocery store. In 1902, they moved to Gotebo, Okla. where he also operated a grocery store. In June of 1912, they came to Reedley, Calif. and have lived here since. He again went into the grocery business for a number of years. The last several years he was a painter. He was a hard worker and ever sought to deal honorably with his fellowmen. He was a good provider for his family.

As a young man he realized that he was a sinner and in need of salvation. He turned to Christin repentance and faith and experienced the joy of knowing that his sins were forgiven and that he was a child of God. On June 11, 1905, he followed his Savior in obedience in baptism with 10 other members of the family, with their father, Elder Peter Richert officiating, and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Gotebo, Okla. When he moved to California he transferred his membership to the Reedley M. B. Church.

Our father was a devout man who loved the Lord and his fellowmen. He delighted to be in the House of God and worship with the believers. We will remember his devotions of bible reading and prayers for us and for all men. He was very much concerned for the salvation of the members of his family.

He enjoyed good health all his life but in 1954 while attending a funeral he suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. A little more than a week before his death he suffered another stroke and his strength rapidly declined until he could leave this vale of suffering and weakness and enter the rest prepared by Christ for His own.

Just a few days before his homegoing, he had severe battles but after praying earnestly for some time, he triumphantly announced to me, his wife, "now i am ready to go home."

His sister, Nettie, Mrs. Frank Heinrichs, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Annie Richert of Reedley, Calif.; four daughters, Lydia, Mrs. Ed Heppner of Reedley, Mrs. Honora Heppner of Fresno, Hulda, Mrs. Robert Strunk of Coard Gold, Calif., Leah, Mrs. Don Mann of Carmel, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sons-in-law; one brother, John P. Richert of Reedley; one sister Katherine, Ms. A. A. Schroeter of Reedley; and many other relatives and friends. — The Wife and Children.
