HENRY P. RICHERT
Henry P. Richert, son of Peter P. and Mathilda Decker Richert, passed away August 10, 1961, at the McPherson County, Kansas Hospital. He reached the age of 82 years, 10 months and six days. He was born Oct. 4, 1878 in the immigrant house at Newton, Kansas, shortly after his parents arrived here from Russia.
On March 26, 1901 he was united in marriage to Maria (Mary) Schultz at Pawnee Rock, Kan. To this union were born four sons and three daughters. Two sons, Albert and Chester, and one grandson preceded him in death.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter. In his declining years he spent much time on hobbies, doing inlaid work, making shelves, weaving baskets, cutting quilt blocks and sewing rug strips for passtime.
He was always friendly to children, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In his early youth he was baptized by Elder Balzer of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. He belonged to the Mennonite Church most of his life. During his last days he spent much time in prayer and expressed his deep desire to meet his Lord and Savior.
He leaves to mourn his death his beloved wife; two sons, Brenton of Newton, Kan. and Emil of Canton, Kan.; three daughters, Dorothy, Mrs. John Berg of Whitewater, Kan., Erna, Mrs. Albert Erickson, and Margie, Mrs. Walter Johnson, both of McPherson.
