MRS. A. W. RHODES
Anna Rebecca Rhodes, daughter of Daniel S. and Katie (Brenneman) Brunk, was born June 30, 1881, near Lima, Ohio, passed away Jan. 22, 1957, at the Mennonite Hospital in La Junta, Colo. following an illness of four months, aged 75 years, seven months, and 22 days.
She grew up in the Lima, Ohio community where early in her youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Mennonite Church.
On Feb. 14, 1901, she was united in marriage near Lima, Ohio to Amos W. Rhodes of Harrisonburg, Va. The couple lived first at Elida, Ohio, then came to the La Junta community in 1903. They settled in the Fairmount district, living there many years. Bro. Rhodes retired as a farmer in 1946, and the couple moved to La Junta in 1948.
Sister Rhodes was very active in church work. She served as superintendent of the Primary Department for a number of years and furnished transportation and taught in the first summer Bible school started in La Junta. She continued teaching many years and always served in some capacity in the church until the last few years when her health failed. Her sincerity and deep concern for the spiritual welfare of those about her, and especially her family will long be remembered.
Sister Rhodes and her husband were charter members of the La Junta Mennonite church, organized in 1903, and Bro. Rhodes is now the only remaining charter member living in La Junta.
Besides her husband, Sister Rhodes is survived by four sons, Marvin, John and Vernon, all of la Junta, and Paul of Colorado Springs, Colo. A daughter, Edna, preceded her in death April 13, 1932. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the La Junta Mennonite Church on Jan. 26, 1957, with Bro. E. M. Yost officiating, assisted by Bro. J. W. Shank.
