&#9679; Leonhard B. Rempel, 66, of Newton died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 4, after suffering a heart attack. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Halstead Hospital. A native of the Hillsboro community, he farmed there for some years, moving to Newton 17 years ago. He was last employed in the permit division of the State Highway Department. He was a member of the Bethel College Church, where the funeral was conducted Friday afternoon with Rev. Esko Loewen and Rev. John Esau in charge. Surviving him are Mrs. Rempel, the former Irene Bartel; two daughters, Mrs. Max Froese of Iola, Okla. and Dilores Faye Rempel of Berlin, Germany; three sisters, Mrs. Alvin Penner of Hillsboro, Mrs. Ben Ewert of Marion and Mrs. Ed P. Ewert of Newton; and three grandchildren.

Leonard Rempel, 66, 1408 W. 8th, Newton, died Monday at Halstead Hospital.

Mr. Rempel, a native and longtime resident of Hillsboro, was born February 19, 1905 to Mr. and Mrs. Johann Rempel.

On October 21, 1932 he married Irene Bartel. They farmed in the Hillsboro community before moving to Newton 17 years ago and he als was a former owner-operator of the Hillsboro Dari-Ette. He was a retired employee of the permit division of the highway department.

Survivors include his widow Irene: two daughters, Mrs. Max (Sylvia Jane) Froese, Inola, Okla., and Dilores Faye of Berlin, Germany; three sisters., Mrs. Alvin Penner, Hillsboro; Mrs. Ben Ewert, Marion; Mrs. Ed P. Ewert, Newton; and three grandchildren. A son, daughter, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p. m. in the Bethel College Mennonite Church, Newton, of which he was a member, with Rev. Esko Loewen officiating.

Friends may call at the Draper-Cannon Funeral Home in Newton on Thursday.

Memorials are being established with the church and the Heart Fund.

Interment will be in the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillsboro.
