text of obituary:
MRS. SARAH (TOEWS) REMPEL
Sister Sarah (Toews) Rempel daughter of George and Sara Toews, was born Oct. 14, 1880 at Henderson, Neb. She had reached the age of 86 years, two months, and one day, when on Dec. 15, 1966 she quietly went home to be with the Lord.
Mother spent the first part of her life near Henderson, where she received her elementary education.
On April 27, 1899 she was joined in holy matrimony with Rempel. To this union there were born 12 children, of whom four preceded her in death.
The parents established their first home on a farm near Hampton, Neb. where they lived for eight years. Then they moved on a farm near Henderson, where they stayed 10 years. In August of 1918, they moved to a farm near Enid, Okla. where they resided until 1943 when they retired and moved into Enid.
On Sept. 11, 1946, it pleased the Lord to take our father home to glory. In 1962, mother moved into the Fairview Fellowship Home until August 1966 when ill health called her closer to her children. After some time in the hospital she made her home at the East Hill Nursing Home, where she received tender care until her death.
Mother accepted Christ when she was 13 years old. The same year, on May 27, 1894, she was baptized by Johann Regier and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church, remaining a faithful member until her death. Mother was a wonderful help to our father in the important work of the deaconate. They served the church as deacons for 25 years. Even after father was gone she retained an active interest in relief work. She loved to can meat and fruit for mission projects and sew quilts for foreign relief. During the last few years when she could no longer actively participate in the sewing circle, she made many quilt tops for the circle.
She leaves to mourn her departure: two sons, Gerhard and Jacob J., both of Enid; six daughters, (Sarah) Mrs. Isaac I. Regier of Enid, (Helena) J. B. Barkman of Enid, (Katherina) Mrs. John Buller of Kremlin, (Elizabeth) Mrs. Frank Buller of Dinuba, Calif., (Eva) Mrs. Orlando Siebert of Enid, and (Martha) Mrs. Julius Penner of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters-in-law; seven sons-in-law; 36 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; two brothers, G. G. Toews of Reedley, Calif., and A. G. Toews of Enid; three sisters, Mrs. Helena Janzen, (Anna) Mrs. H. L. Buller of Reedley, and (Mary) Mrs. John L. Friesen of Enid, and a host of relatives and friends. — the family.
