Jakob E. Rempel, Sohn von Jakob und Augusta Rempel, wurde geboren nahe Hillsboro, in Marion Co. Kansas am 31. März, 1885, und entschlief sanft im Herrn am 18. Dez. 1942 im Alter von 57 J, 8 M und 17 Tagen. Er war das vierte Kind in einer Familie von elf Kindern und der zweite aus dieser Gruppe in die ewige Heimat hinüber zu scheiden. Sein Bruder Bernahrd ist ihm im Tode vorangegangen. Seine Kindheit verweilte er im Heim seiner Eltern in Brudertal und durfte solche Vorrechte genießen wie sie das Leben in der Nachbarschaft damals bot. Am 4. Juni, 1906 wurde er auf das Bekenntnis seines Glaubens von seinem Onkel, dem Aeltesten Wm. J. Ewert getauft und Glied der Brudertal Gemeinde. Am 12. Januar 1911, trat er mit Maria R. Duerksen in den heiligen Ehestand. Bald darauf siedelten sie hinüber in die Gegend von Drake, Saskatchewan. Da dieses die Zeit war in welcher diese Gegend neu besiedelt wurde so durften sie dort an der Pionier-Arbeit teil nehmen. In Folge dessen schlossen sie sich auch der dortigen neu gegründeten Nordstern Gemeinde an und nahmen regen Anteil an der Arbeit in derselben. Während sie dort wohnten wurde diese Ehe mit 4 Töchtern und 1 Sohn gesegnet, welche alle am Leben sind. Aber dieses Eheleben wurde all zu schnell zum Abbruch gebracht mit dem Dahinscheiden der lieben Mutter am 1. Nov. 1918. Es wurde ihnen vergönnet nicht ganz 8 Jahre im Ehestand zu leben. Sich in dieser fast unmöglichen Lage befindend, wo es seine Aufgabe sein würde 5 kleine mutterlose Kinder in einer spärlich besiedelten Gegend zu erziehen, entschloß er sich mit seiner Schar von Kleinen zurück zum Heim seiner noch lebenden Mutter zu kommen. Jedoch das ernstliche Flehen eines schwer bedrängten Herzens findet stets bei dem lieben himmlischen Vater ein offenes Ohr. Und somit wurde den Kindern eine liebe Mutter versorgt indem er am 26. Okt. 1919 mit Liese Balzer in den heiligen Ehestand trat. Diese Ehe durfte durch Gottes Gnade etwa 23 Jahre dauern und wurde mit 2 Söhnen und 1 Tochter gesegnet. Die Tochter, Erna ist Ihm im Tode vorangegangen, am 12. Juni 1929. Am 2. Nov. 1919 schloß er sich wiederum der Brudertal Gemeinde an, deren treues und tätiges Glied er auch blieb. Da vor ungefähr drei Jahre eine Aenderung in der Organisation der Gemeinde stattfand und es beschlossen wurde ein Glied aus der Gemeinde zur Mithilfe in der Arbeit des Gemeindevorstandes zu wählen, wurde ihm dieses Amt aufgetragen, welches er auch mit Freuden und nach Kräften treu erledigt hat. Unser Vater bleibt uns im Gedächtnis als ein Kind Gottes, welches die Versöhnung liebte. Er hatte ein großes Maß von Geduld und große Liebe für die Mitmenschen. Die Not des Nächsten lag ihm am Herzen und somit hatte er eine mildtätige Hand in der Linderung derselben. Bewußt, daß es mit seiner Gesundheit anfing zu mangeln, wurde er bereit eine Operation im Axtell Hospital zu Newton an sich vollziehen zu lassen. Anfänglich schien Hoffnung zur Genesung zu sein. Aber mit der Zeit stellten sich Komplizierungen ein, die nicht beseitigt werden konnten. Samft [sic] und ruhig holte ihn der Heiland, den er geliebt, heim, früh morgens am 18. Dez. Er hinterläßt seine tief trauernde Gattin. 4 Töchter und 3 Söhne; 4 Schwiegersöhne, 1 Schwiegertochter, 8 Großkinder; 1 Schwiegermutter; die Eltern seiner ersten Gattin, 6 Schwestern, 3 Brüder, 10 Schwägerinnen, 12 Schwäger und viele Freunden. Trostworte auf dem Begräbnis sprachen Prediger A. E. Funk, und J. M. Regier von der Johannesthal Gemeinde.

JACOB E. REMPEL

Our husband and father, Jacob E. Rempel, son of Jacob and Augusta Rempel was born near Hillsboro, in Marion county, Kansas, on March 31, 1885, and passed away to his eternal reward on Dec. 18, 1942, at the age of 57 years, 8 months and 17 days. He was the fourth child in a family of eleven children, of whom he is the 2nd to have passed on, being preceded by his older brother Bernhard.

He spent his childhood days in the home of his parents in the Brudertal community, enjoying such privileges as life in the community afforded.

On June 4, 19$6 [sic 1906], he was baptized upon confession of faith by his uncle, the Rev. Wm. J. Ewert, and thus became a member of the Brudertal church.

On Jan. 12, 1911, he and Maria R. Duerksen were joined in wedlock. Shortly thereafter they moved to a farm in the vicinity of Drake, Sask. This was at the time that that area was being settled and so he had the part of a pioneer in the building of that community.

On July 28, 1912, he transferred his membership to the North Star church near Drake, an took an active part in the work of the church there.

While residing in the Drake community, 5 children, 4 daughters and 1 son, were born to them, all of whom are living. However, the time of their married life was cut short of nearly 8 years by the untimely death of his wife on Nov. 1, 1918.

Faced with the well nigh impossible situation of rearing five small motherless children in a frontier community, he returned to the home of his mother in the Brudertal community.

But the earnest pleading of a distressed heart never falls on an unheeding ear of our Heavenly Father and so his five children were given the love of a new mother, when on Oct. 16, 1919, he was joined in the holy wedlock with Liese Balzer. They enjoyed wedded life for 23 years and were blessed with three children, 2 sons and 1 daughter, Erna, who went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 12, 1929.

Having established his new home in the Brudertal community, he rejoined the church there on Nov. 2, 1919, and remained a faithful and active member up to the time of his departure. He was voted into the church council 3 years ago and leaved this office vacant.

We remember Dad for his conciliatory spirit, his almost unlimited patience, and his great love for his fellowmen. His heart overflowed for the needs of the less fortunate and he shared bountifully of his earthly possessions.

Becoming aware of his failing health he submitted to an operation on Dec. 10 at the Axtell Hospital in Newton. Unforseen complications set in and death came quite suddenly.

He leaves to mourn his too early departure his deeply bereaved wife, his children, Mrs. Frieda Unrau of Wichita; Mrs. Hila Holman of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Mariann Dyck near Elbing; Waldo Rempel of Wichita, Lula Dyck of near Elbing, and Lloyd and Paul at the home.

Besides these he leaves 4 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, and 8 grandchildren, his mother0in-law; also the parents of his deceased wife, 6 sisters, 3 brothers 10 sister-in-laws 12 brothers-in-law and a host of relatives and friends.

Even though the sea seems storm,
Even though the billows roar
If we put our trust in Jesus
He will guide us safe to shore.

He'll go with us, share our heart ack [sic]
He'll take part in our deep grief
There is light beyond the shadows
And our life on earth is brief.

Tho sometimes our days are lonely
And we long for loved ones there,
Who are waiting for our coming
Beckoning us to heaven so fair.

Where there'll be no disappointment
Where clouds will never hide the sun,
Where there'll be no pain nor sorrow
And no tearful farewell sung.

Yet a little while to linger
Till he calls us from afar
And we'll all meet there in Jesus
When we too have crossed the bar!

— Jacob E. Rempel, 58, well known farmer in the Brudertal community northeast of Hillsboro, died last Fro. morning at the Axtell Christian hospital. Many of his friends had not known that he was so seriously ill and his death came as a shock to relatives here as well as at Hillsboro. The large funeral took place Friday afternoon at the Brudertal church. A short service was held also at the farm home. Mr. Rempel is survived by his deeply sorrowing wife and the following children: Mrs. Frieda Unrau and Waldo Rempel of Wichita; Mrs. Mary Dick and Mrs. Lulu Dick of Elbing; Mrs. Hilda Hohman of Ontario, Calif., and Paul and Lloyd at home. One daughter preceded him in death. He was a brother of Mrs. John J. Friesen of Butterfield, Minn., who until her recent marriage was Miss Mary Rempel of Newton. A number of relatives from a distance came to attend the funeral.
