HEINRICH H. REMPEL

Heinrich Rempel was born November 27, 1880 in Steinau, Russia, the son of Heinrich and Maria (Loewen) Rempel. He grew up in Steinau and through the Christian influence of others found salvation in Christ, was baptized and at 18 years became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. In 1913 he was called to the ministry of the Word and in 1919 he was ordained to the ministry in the Alexandrowka MB Church. Through personal counselling he led many persons to Christ.

In 1900 he was married to Maria Wieler with whom he shared his life for 22 years. To this marriage were born four sons and three daughters. After the death of his first wife he was married to a widow, Mrs. Maria Unruh (Friesen) to which union the Lord gave three sons and four daughters. During the years in Russia the family moved from Steinau to Maslanowka, Siberia; later to Barnaul, then Orloff and later Gnadenheim. On January 27, 1926 the family fled Russia for Canada settling for ten years at Winkler and later for another 11 years at Vauxhall, Alberta. Following retirement in 1947, Mr. and Mrs. Rempel purchased a home in Coaldale where they lived until the time of Mrs. Rempel's death. Shortly after her death Mr. Rempel moved to Clearbrook where he passed away on April 20 at the age of 84 years. He leaves to mourn his passing nine sons, nine daughters, their wives and husbands, over 100 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren. The funeral was in the Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church.
