ABRAHAM F. REMPEL

Abraham F. Rempel was born on August 5, 1868 in South Russia, to Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Rempel. He passed away to be with his Lord on April 30, 1954. He attained the age of 85 years, eight months and 25 days.

In 1876 he, with his parents and grandparents, came to the United States to live. They settled near Fairbury, Neb., where Mr. Rempel spent the greater part of his life. In 1879 Mr. Rempel’s father died as the result of an accident, leaving the mother to raise and care for eight children.

The year 1888 was an important one for Bro. Rempel. It was in that year that he was saved by the grace of God, and was baptized and joined the fellowship of the church. It was also in that year, on August 19, that he entered in matrimony with Aganetha Fast. Mrs. Rempel died at the early age of 26, leaving Mr. Rempel with four young children. In 1895 Mr. Rempel married Sarah Classen. To this union ten children were born.

In 1905 Mr. and Mrs. Rempel joined the fellowship of the E.M.B. church at Jansen, Neb. They remained faithful members there until moving to Dallas, Oregon in 1943. Often during those years in Nebraska, Mr. Rempel was called upon to minister to the needs of destitute and sorrowing families, and he gladly gave his time and service to help them in their need.

In 1943, when Mr. and Mrs. Rempel moved to Dallas, they joined the fellowship of the local E.M.B. church. In 1946 they moved to Salem. There Mrs. Rempel passed away in 1947, and Mr. Rempel on April 30, 1954. Through all these years he loved to go to the house of the Lord and to fellowship with the people of God. He loved his Saviour, and now has gone to see Him whom he loved.

He is survived by six sons, George A. Rempel and Henry C. Rempel of Jansen, Neb., J. A. Rempel of Mt. Lake, Minn., I. C. Rempel of Monta [sic Monte] Vista, Colo., John C. Rempel of Windom, Minn., and Pete C. Rempel of Salem, Oregon; five daughters, Mrs. Margrath [sic Margaret] Classen, Mrs. Frank Friesen, Mrs. Irvin Balzer, Rose and Sarah, all of Salem, Oregon; two brothers, Peter F. Rempel of Meade, Kansas, and Henry F. Rempel of Jansen, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Classen, and Mrs. G. J. Classen, both of Meade, Kansas; six daughters-in-law and two sons-in-law; 32 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
