Fire Tragedy, Accidents Claim Lives of Four

Brother and Sister Die in Home Fire

Winkler, Manitoba. — A fire at the John M. Reimer home here the night of Jan. 24 claimed the lives of two Reimer children, Robert, 7, and Bernice, 3.

Linda Dueck and Mr. and Mrs. George Penner of Kane, Man. escaped from the burning house, taking with them their young child and another child of the Reimers. The John Reimers, parents of the dead children, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dueck, parents of Linda, were vacationing at Nashville, Tenn. at the time of the tragedy and returned home immediately.

It is believed an overheated furnace caused the fire, which took place in 25 below zero weather. Firemen soon had the flames under control, but the two children had died of asphyxiation.
