Jacob P. Reimer, son of Peter A. Reimer and Agatha Dirksen Reimer, was born November 18, 1871, in the village of Kleefeld in South Russia, and passed quietly from this life September 16, 1951, at 2:10 p.m. He had laid down on the couch to listen to Rev. Theodore Epp’s "Back to the Bible” broadcast, and there went peacefully to sleep.

In 1886 at the age of 14 years he, together with his parents, came to America and settled in the Hillsboro, Kans. community. He came to Oklahoma at the opening of the Cherokee Strip and staked a claim in the run three miles east and three and one-half miles north of Medford. He resided in this rural community east and north of Medford until moving to town in 1940.

On May 14, 1893, he was baptized upon his confession of faith by Elder Buller and accepted into the fellowship of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church of Goessel, Kans. In 1897 his membership was transferred to the Medford Mennonite church of which he was a charter member, and there he remained a faithful member until his death. He was active in the church to the very last and served as Sunday sshool [sic] teacher and member of the church council for most of these years. He was an active board member of the Oklahoma Bible Academy for many years and assisted in the organization of the Mennonite Hilfsplan.

On March 11, 1900, he was married to Maria Froese who preceded him in death on November 25, 1914. To this union four children were born, Jake, of Medford, Margaret (Mrs. Raymond Ratzlaff) of Covington, Lydia, (Mrs. Henry Becker) of Medford, and Walter of Medford.

On February 11, 1915, he was united in marriage to Helena Janzen with whom he shared the joys and sorrows for more than 36 years. To this union were born four children, Bernard of Medford, Rosella (Mrs. Elmer Outhier) of Ardmore, Harry of Medford, and Hulda (Mrs. B. F. Fields) of Enid.

During his lifetime he possessed a great deal of physical energy, and generally enjoyed good health until March 25, Easter Sunday of this year, when he suffered a severe heart attack from which he never completely recovered.

He leaves to mourn, besides his wife and eight children, one sister. Mrs. Agatha Conrad of Medford; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.

His parents and thirteen brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Sohn von Peter A. Reimer und Frau Agatha, geb. Dirksen, erblickte das Licht der Welt im Dorfe Kleefeld, Südrußland, am 18. November 1871. Er durfte am 16. September 1951 heimgehen. Er hatte sich auf die Ruhebank gelegt und horchte dem Radioprogramm “Zurück zur Bibel” zu und ist dabei sanft hinübergeschlummert.

Als 14-jähriger kam er Anno 1884 nach Amerika, und zwar nach Hillsboro, Kans. Als in Oklahoma neues Siedlungsland eröffnet wurde, gewann er eine Farm nahe bei Medford. Dort bleibt er bis 1940, als er ins Städtchen Medford zog.

Im Mai 1893 wurde er auf den Glauben von Aelt. Buller getauft und in die Alexanderwohler Mennonitengemeinde zu Gössel, Kans., aufgenommen. 1897 schloß er sich der Mennonitengemeinde zu Medford an, deren treues Glied es bis zum Tode blieb. Er war ein reger Gemeindearbeiter, Sonntagsschullehrer, Glied des Gemeinderates, Direktor der Oklahoma Bibelschule und des Mennon. Hilfsvereins.

Am 11. März 1900 heiratete er Maria Fröse, die am 25. Nov. 1914 starb. Aus der Ehe hinterblieben 4 Kinder. — Am 11. Febr. wurde Helena Janzen seine Frau, und mit ihr hat er 36 Jahre Freude und Leid geteilt. Ihnen wurden auch 4 Kinder geboren. Er war ein starker Mann und nie krank, bis er am 25. März d. J. [dieses Jahres] einen Herzanfall erlitt, von dem er sich schon nie ganz erholte. Es betrauern sein Abscheiden die 8 Kinder, eine Schwester, 18 Enkel, 1 Urenkel und viele Freunde und Verwandte. Seine Eltern und 13 Brüder waren ihm alle im Tode vorangegangen.

P.S.: Der Verstorbene hat Verwandte in Paraguay. Er war ein langjähriger Rundschauleser und hatte das Blatt sehr gerne. — Hier bei Medford ist das Wetter jetzt naß und der Winterweizen steht schön.

Son of Peter A. Reimer and wife Agatha, née Dirksen, first saw the light of day in the village of Kleefeld, South Russia, on November 18, 1871. He was allowed to go home on September 16, 1951. He had laid down on the couch and was listening to the “Back to the Bible” radio program when he peacefully went to sleep.

He came to America as a 14-year-old in 1884, to Hillsboro, Kansas. When new settlement land became available in Oklahoma, he acquired a farm near Medford. He remained there until 1940, when he moved to the small town of Medford.

In May 1893, he was baptized in the faith by Aeltester Buller and was accepted into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church at Goessel, Kansas. In 1897, he joined the Medford Mennonite Church, of which he remained a faithful member until his death. He was an active church worker, Sunday school teacher, member of the church council, director of the Oklahoma Bible school and of the Mennonite Hilfsverein [relief society].

On March 11, 1900, he married Maria Froese, who died on Nov. 25, 1914. Four children from the marriage survive. — On Feb. 11, [1915,] Helena Janzen became his wife, and with her he shared 36 years of joy and sorrow. They also had 4 children. He was a strong man and never ill until March 25 of this year, when he suffered a heart attack, from which he never fully recovered.
