Manitoba Youth Killed In Farm Explosion

Altona, Man. — The explosion of an empty gasoline drum at the Isaak K. Reimer farm near Plum Coulee claimed the life of 18-year-old Abe Reimer and injured his father.

The youth and his father had used a welder to repair a hay baler and then set the welder on top of the drum. The heat from the welder apparently set off gas fumes, causing the explosion. The son was hit on the head by a piece of metal and died later in the day at a Winnipeg hospital. His father was knocked unconscious but did not require hospital treatment.
