SUSAN REIMER
Susan Reimer of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away Jan. 16. She was born Dec. 14, 1895 to evangelist Jacob W. and Gertrude Reimer in Rtickenau, Molotschna, Russia. She was a good student with a strong desire for knowledge. At 19, she accepted Christ. The following year she was baptized and joined the MB church Rtickenau. In 1920 her mother died. She took over the household, caring for siblings. Her father remarried in 1923 and she returned to her studies. In 1924 she immigrated to Canada. She worked on a farm in Ontario, held various jobs and then returned to studies. In 1932 she began teaching elementary school in Manitoba, serving her students as confidante, friend and spiritual guide. In 1944 she joined her sister Katherine in Toronto. In 1951 they opened a nursing home in Kitchener, Ont., where she helped raise nephew William Stewart. She taught Bible lessons to patients and staff and led morning devotions. She was an active spiritual force in Kitchener MB Church. In 1961 the sisters moved to Burnaby, B.C., where she continued her Bible study. In 1979 they moved to Clearbrook, B.C. In June, 1988, she moved to Menno Home, Abbotsford. She is remembered as one who was pure in spirit, a shining, devoted emissary of Christ and a loving friend. Predeceased by 4 brothers and 2 sisters, she is mourned by her sisters Katherine of Clearbrook, Gertrude Martens of Clearbrook and Gertie Brown of Vancouver; and brothers Henry, William and John of Kitchener, and Waldemar Rempel of Chilliwack, B.C. The funeral was Jan. 20 in Bakerview MB Church, Clearbrook, with Harry Heidebrecht and Herb Neufeld ministering.
