JUSTINA S. REIMER

Justina S. Reimer was born in Blumstein, South Russia, on Oct. 15, 1871. Her parents, Bernhard and Anna Reimer, had eight other children and, being of very limited means, they consented to let John Born and his wife in Conteniusfeld, who had no children, take her as their child. Mrs. Born was a sister of Bernhard Reimer. However, when Justina's parents decided to emigrate in 1877, they took her with them to America, settling near Inman, Kan.

When her father passed away in 1893 and she was the only one of the children who had not yet established her own home, she decided to live with and look after her mother as long as she might live. This she did faithfully for some years longer on the paternal farm and then for many more years in Goessel, Kan. After her mother's death in 1918 she moved to Buhler, Kan. Here she lived until coming to Reedley, Calif. in the spring of 1956. The past two years she has greatly appreciated the fine care she received in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Home for the Aged.

Except for the last three years, she always busied herself in activities of sewing circles, making quilts and other things for relief. After her mother's death she also often ministered to other aging and feeble ladies for months and years at a time.

Her habits were frugal, and by her thrift she was able to lay up enough so that she at no time needed to be financially assisted by anyone, nor did she need to ask for Old Age Assistance from the state.

In her youth she accepted salvation in Christ and became a member of the Hoffnungsau Church east of Buhler. She never withdrew her membership, but worshipped in the Mennonite Brethren Church in Reedley while in California. Her life has always been one of deep devotion in her Lord. In the last months there was a marked growth in the faith and many times she expressed a great desire to depart from this life and be promoted to the presence of the Christ she loved. She died Dec. 4, 1962.

Remaining to miss her, but rejoicing her entrance into Glory, is one older sister, Mrs. Agnes Giesbrecht of Reedley, and 33 nepehws [sic], nieces and their children in Reedley and many other places. She reached the age of 91 years and 50 days.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Dec. 7, 1962, in Cairus Funeral Home, Reedley, with Rev. Dan E. Friesen officiating. Burial was made in the Reedley Cemetery.
