John S. Reimer, 83, a former resident of the Goessel-McPherson area, died June 8 at his home in La Mirada, Calif. He was married in 1922 to Elizabeth Pankratz at Lehigh, Kan. She survives, along with two daughters, seven brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren. Herman C. Reimer of North Newton is one of the surviving brothers. Funeral services were held at the Church of Our Fathers in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, Calif., on June 11, with Donald G. King in charge.

JOHN S. REIMER

John S. Reimer was born Nov. 15, 1897 to Cornelius A. and Elizabeth Schroeder Reimer near Canton, Kan., and grew up on a farm in McPherson County. His entire youth was spent in the Spring Valley community, with the exception of two years when the family lived in the Gotebo, Okla. area.

He was baptized upon his confession of sins and profession of faith on Dec. 26, 1917 by P. H. Unruh, and received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel.

He was married on Aug. 19, 1922 to Elizabeth Pankratz at Lehigh, Kan. They shared the joys and sorrows of wedded life for over 58 years. To this union were born two daughters, Lenora Mae and Mary Jane. The family lived on a farm in the Goessel area until moving to McPherson in 1952. In 1955 they moved to California, making their home in Upland until 1961. They later lived at La Mirada.

He was a farmer by occupation and always had the interest of farming activities at heart. He took special interest in his two grandchildren and was always concerned about their spiritual well-being, as well as that of the rest of his family.

His health began to fail in the fall of 1980, and he longed to be released from earthly pain and suffering. He died June 8, 1981, at the age of 83.

He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth, two daughters, Lenora Mae of the home and Mary Jane (Mrs. Paul) Swartzendruber of La Mirada; seven brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren, John and Susan Swartzendruber of Amory, Miss.
