JACOB J. REIMER

Jacob J. Reimer of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away July 5. He was born Jan. 1, 1906 to Jacob and Anna Reimer in Terek, southern Russia. In 1926 they immigrated to Canada, settling in Eastend, Sask. He accepted Christ at an early age, drifted from his faith, then yielded himself completely to God's will and was baptized at age 23. After attending Bible schools in Coaldale, Alta., Hepburn, Sask. and Three Hills, Alta., he began Russian studies to prepare for missionary work in Russia. When that door remained closed, he found a needy field among the Russian speaking Doukhobors in the Kootenay area of B.C., working in several communities. After marrying Marie Friesen in 1953, they moved to Slocan Valley, a solitary Doukhobor area. He ministered through home visitation, occasional gospel services, and working side by side with the men at any job. Children were reached through Bible studies, VBS and Sunday schools. In 1970 they moved to Chilliwack, B.C. to be with their only son, then returned to minister in Slocan Valley until health forced them to retire to Chilliwack in 1983. In 1989 they moved to Clearbrook. Predeceased by 2 sisters and 2 brothers, he is mourned by his wife; son Paul; 2 granddaughters; 2 sisters and 5 brothers. The funeral was July 10 in Bakerview MB Church, Clearbrook, with Henry Thiessen and Henry Epp ministering.
