Robber Shoots Young Man In British Honduras
JACOB REIMER, 21, LOSES LIFE ATTEMPTING TO FOIL ROBBERY
Steinbach, Manitoba. — Word was received here recently of a tragedy in British Honduras which claimed the life of 21-year-old Jacob Reimer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Klaas R. Reimer, formerly of this community.
The young man died of gunshot wounds in the head, sustained as he tried to apprehend some robbers who had entered a store owned by a neighbor.
According to the report received here, Jacob, his father and two brothers were awakened about midnight by a shout and the sound of a gunshot in the vicinity of the store. They suspected that robbers were at work, since the store had been robbed before.
Jacob was the first one at the scene and apparently was shot by the thieves. His father and brothers found him lying in the yeard near the store, and he died about six hours later.
The Reimer family formerly lived here near the Clearspring School and moved to Mexico when Jacob was nine years old. They were among the Mennonites who emigrated to British Honduras in recent years. A number of relatives still reside in the Steinbach vicinity.
It is reported that the three bandits involved in the robbery have been arrested, and a charge of murder has been fild [sic] against one of them.
