Reimer, Henry (1898-1954)
Mennonite Weekly Review obituary: 1954 Mar 11 p. 9
Birth date: 1898 Dec 27
text of obituary:
HENRY REIMER
Henry Reimer, our beloved husband and father, son of Jacob and Susanna Reimer, was born Dec. 27, 1898, at Hochstadt, Manitoba. In 1904 the family moved to Alberta, later moving to Needles, B. C. for several years, returning to Swalwell, Alberta again in 1917.
During a series of revival meetings he was convicted of his lost condition and was converted and united with the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite through baptism in 1918, remaining a true member until his death.
He was joined in marriage with Susie Toews, his now deeply bereaved wife, on July 9, 1922.
His illness dates back to July 1953 when doctors advised him to stay in bed. Later he was taken to a Calgary hospital several times where doctors could not help him and he was released and came home. After much concern and prayer we sought help elsewhere, resulting in his going to a Denver, Colo., hospital where he continued to suffer intensely, though in patience. However, much of his pain and suffering was alleviated by the good care and attendance of the staff.
In God’s own appointed time he peacefully passed away at 2:55 p. m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1954, at the age of 55 years, one month and 27 days, his death due to cancer of the glands. Upon his death the attending nurse exclaimed, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints,” (Psalm 115:15).
Father was quite actively engaged through the years in various community enterprises such as the Linden Co-op Dairy Assoc., besides serving on different church committees and being also a member of the board supervising the building of the new church. He was ever concerned for our spiritual and natural welfare and was a good provider, besides being a ready and cheerful giver to those in need.
He leaves to mourn his too early departure his deeply bereaved companion; four sons, Jacob, Paul, Edward and Allen; three daughters, Clara, Margaret and Gladys; one daughter-in-law, Priscilla, Mrs. Paul Reimer; his father, one brother and nine sisters, besides many relatives and friends.
We have full faith that father has gone to his eternal reward, as he expressed himself as having a lively hope and confidence for the future, admonishing us all to meet him in yonder bliss and happiness.
Funeral services were held in the Linden church Sunday afternoon, Feb. 28, with Rev. F. F. Hiebert in charge. Burial was made in the nearby cemetery.— Mother and Children.
