● Gustav P. Regier, 80, died at the farm home east of Newton on the First Street road Tuesday morning after a long illness. He had spent his entire life on the same farm. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the First Mennonite Church, of which he was a member. Rev. Arnold Epp, the pastor, will officiate. Mr. Regier leaves his wife, the former Anna Andres, two daughters, two sons, 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one grandchild, two sisters and brothers.

Gustav P. Regier was born July 14, 1883, near Newton, Kan.; to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob H. Regier, and went to be with the Lord, while at rest, on Aug. 20, 1963, having reached the age of 80 years, one month and six days.

Our father often spoke of the three 25-year periods of his life. He received his education in the Harvey County school system and had often assisted his parents with the farm work because of the hard times. It was during this first period of 25 years that he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour from sin and was baptized upon his confession of faith on May 18, 1902, by Rev. Jacob Toews and united with the First Mennonite Church of Newton. He loved his church and served the Lord in a quiet way through it.

On Jan. 4, 1906, he was married to Anna Andres with whom he shared both joys and sorrows for nearly 58 years. It was in 1918 when their 10-year-old son, Arthur, was taken from their side. The Lord caused father to have a great love for missions and he was interested in speeding the Gospel to those who have never heard. Often we enjoyed some of our missionaries in the home for a meal or night’s lodging. His zealous heart for missions and for his church often indicated to us that he was laying up treasures in heaven. These experiences were most fruitful for each of us in the family.

During the third 25 years the Lord became more precious to our father. It was during this time that a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, and a daughter, Olga, went to their eternal reward. Father’s trust in the Lord helped us as a family to take these experiences as from the Lord.

On Jan. 4, 1956, our parents had the unusual joy of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. During the past year, father knew his life on earth would not be for long since his health was slowly failing.

Those who mourn his departure include his widow, Mrs. Anna Regier; two sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Gus H. Regier Jr. and family of Newton and Rev. and Mrs. Walter Regier and family of Clinton, Okla.; two daughters and their families, (Helen) Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thoman and family of West Liberty, Ohio, and (Marie) Mr. and Mrs. Gus H. Entz and family of Newton; one son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Willard Regier and family of Elbing, Kan.; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Suderman and Miss Johanna Regier of Newton, and one brother, Dr. H. L. Regier of Kansas iCty [sic City], Kan. — Mrs. Gustav P. Regier and family.
