• C. B. Regier, a lifetime resident of this community, died at the Bethel Home for Aged on Wednesday morning, the day after his 81st birthday. He had suffered a stroke several weeks ago. Mr. Regier had resided at the Bethel Home for a number of years. He never married, and his only survivors are a brother, B. E. Regier of Newton, and a sister, Mrs. Katie Entz of Route 5, Newton. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, where the funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Cornelius B. Regier, son of Rev. Bernhard and Louise (Busemitz) Regier, was born on April 28, 1883 near Newton, Kan., and departed this life on April 29, 1964, reaching the age of 81 years and one day.

It was on the farm that he spent his happy childhood and also attended the public school nearby. In his early years he experienced much sickness, but his health improved.

On June 21, 1901 he was baptized by Elder Jacob Toevs, upon his confession of faith in Christ, and received as a member into the First Mennonite Church of Newton.

Uncle Corney, as we all knew him, always enjoyed his nieces and nephews, and they in turn appreciated him. He traveled many a mile by horse and buggy to visit relatives, neighbors and friends. He had an out-going personality and loved company.

In 1929 he with his parents moved to Newton. The following year his mother passed away. He continued to reside with his father, who died in 1940. After his passing, Corney lived at various places and in 1948 entered Bethel Home for the Aged where he remained until the day of his death. The faithful care of the sisters, nurses and helpers is very much appreciated by the family.

In his later years he became handicapped by an injury of his hip. This confined him more or less to his room. Since attending church services was impossible he listened to the service on the radio. He made special mention of the fact that Rev. Arnold Epp never forgot to include the shut-ins in prayer.

A year ago he celebrated his 80th birthday surrounded by his loved ones. This same year also brought sadness to him in the passing of his brother, Jacob J. Regier.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Katie Entz; one brother, B. E. Regier; five nieces, eight nephews and their families, and many relatives and friends.
