• Mrs. B. C. Regier, 78, a lifelong resident of this community, died on May 1 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Regier had taken their first jet flight on April 19, traveling to Bogalusa, La. to visit their son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. John R. Schmidt and family. Several days later Mrs. Regier became ill. She was able to return here by plane on April 29, but her condition worsened and she died a short time later. The funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church, where she had been baptized in 1907. She was the former Agatha Andres. Surviving in addition to her husband and daughter, Mrs. Schmidt, are another daughter, Mrs. Gerhard Harder of Whitewater; two sons, Herman B. and Edwin J. of rural Newton; 22 grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.

Mrs. Agathe Andres Regier, daughter of Gustav and Anna Andres, was born Sept. 14, 1890, in Newton, Kan. In her youth she dedicated her life to the Lord, and upon confession of her faith was baptized by Elder Jacob Toews and received into the First Mennonite Church, Newton, where she remained an active member until the time of her death.

On Jan. 3, 1913, she was married to Ben C. Regier, and together they shared the joys and labors of farm life until 1950 when they moved to their home in Newton at 325 S. Pine. Here she could more fully take part in the activities of her Sunday school class, sewing group, and other organizations. She extended her hospitality, not only to members of her immediate family but also to many others who needed a place to stay or just dropped in for a cup of coffee.

She thoroughly enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden, her cooking and baking, her sewing group, visitation of the sick and aged, and many other activities, always sensitive to the need of others. Her family was a special joy to her, and she had a deep concern for their spiritual welfare.

There were also times of illness and deep anguish, but she found the Lord sufficient, for she claimed His promises.

Our parents were privileged to spend 56 years of married life together, especially enjoying the celebration of their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries. The visit in 1953 to see their children in Paraguay was among their most cherished memories.

On April 19th, father's 82nd birthday,they favored their children, the John R. Schmidts, living at the time in Bogalusa, Louisiana, with a visit, traveling by jet. They enjoyed several days together when mother took sick and was taken to the hospital there. The Lord was gracious that she could improve and return to her home. Soon after she returned, she had to be taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery and passed away the following night, May 1. She reached the age of 78 years, six months, and 17 days.

Those who remain to cherish the memory of her life are her husband, Ben C.; two daughters, Clara and husband John Schmidt of Paraguay, S. A., and Anna and husband, Gerhard Harder of Whitewater; two sons and their wives, Herman and Elsie and Edwin and Ella, of Route 4, Newton; 22 grandchildren; the following brothers, sisters and in-laws: Mrs. Anna Regier, Miss Elizabeth Andres, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Andres, Mrs. Minnie Andres, Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Friesen, Mrs. Mary Regier, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiebe and Gustav Regier, and many other relatives and friends.
