Mrs. Marie Regier

Mrs. Marie Regier was born Feb. 23, 1848 in West Prussia, Germany. Her parents were Jacob Entz and Agathe nee Regier. When she was seven months old, her father died. The following year her mother was married again to Peter Dyck, who was a real father to the five little orphans. June 5, 1865 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith, uniting with the Mennonite church.

May 12, 1876 she was married to Bernhard Regier. Soon after their wedding they left for America, locating on a farm near Elbing, Kan. Their union was blessed with 5 children. Two daughters preceeded [sic] their parents in death. Mrs. Regier was one of the 14 charter members of the Zion Mennonite church, of which she was a faithful member. Mr. Regier died Aug. 15, 1908 having been married 32 years.

About 2 years ago Mrs. Regier began suffering with a heart disease, becoming more severe during the last three weeks of her life. On the morning of April 8 she felt her end nearing and desired to depart and be at home. She said Goodby to her children and grandchildren and at 2:40 P. M. quietly fell asleep to be with the Lord whom she loved and served, her age being 81 years, 1 month and 16 days. She leaves to mourn her departure, 2 sons, Mr. B. P. Regier and wife, Mr. C. W. Regier, and one daughter Miss Elise Regier and 7 grandchildren, one having died in infancy, 2 brothers-in-law, and many relations and friends.

Blessed are the dead, which die in the Lord, from henceforth, yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.

Funeral services were held on Friday April 12 at the Zion church here in Elbing with a large attendance. Rev. H. J Dyck spoke in German and Rev. B. W. Harder in the English language. — Contributed.
