MRS. KATIE REGIER

Katie, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Jacob Jantzen, was born December 14, 1902, near Bessie, Oklahoma. She died after a long illness on June 27, 1953, in the Clinton hospital at the age of 50 years, six months and 13 days.

She received her education in the country grade school and also in the German church school, including much Bible study.

Upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, she was baptized by Rev. P. R. Voth on June 9, 1919, and accepted into the Herold Mennonite church. Of this church she was a faithful member until death.

On February 4, 1926, she was joined in holy matrimony to Barney Regier. They lived together happily on a farm near Bessie for 21 years, four months and 23 days. The Lord blessed and in 1947 they could build a modern home.

On February 4, 1951, the celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary with sisters and brothers and many friends was a special occasion of thanksgiving and joy. Because the deceased for many years was unable physically to do much work, brothers and sisters lovingly prepared and arranged everything for them.

In March 1933 she had a severe gall bladder attack. Since then she had never been well. Many doctors were consulted and she had been under doctors’ care for the last 18 years. She suffered high blood pressure during all this time, for which there was no permanent help.

She loved to entertain guests in her home. She also loved to take part in the mission society and other church activities, but was mostly denied such joys. When at all possible she attended church services. Her patience in her illness inspired many.

On June 5 she was rushed to the hospital because of a stroke. She seemed to recover from it satisfactorily, and hoped to be able to go home. On June 24 her condition took a turn for the worse with more hemorrhages, and at 2:00 p.m., June 27, 1953, her spirit left this frail body to be with the Lord. Her trust was in the Lord and she feared not death. She said, “I am not afraid to die.” We sorrow not as those who have no hope, but will see her again.

She leaves to mourn her departure: her husband, Barney Regier; three sisters, Mrs. Ed Schmidt, Mrs. Ben Reimer, and Mrs. H. H. Horn, all of Cordell; one brother, Henry Jantzen of Bessie; eight brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and a number of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.
