MRS. HENRY G. REGIER

Mrs. Henry G. Regier (nee Katherine Loewen) was born July 9, 1864, in Lichtnau [sic Lichtenau], Russia. At the early age of six years she lost her mother in death. She attended school in the same village where she was born, for four years. Some of the teachers she held in high esteem were Heinrich Unruh and Jacob Froese.

At the age of 17 years she moved with her parents to Rudnerweide. There she attended church and took catechetical instruction, and upon confession of faith in her Redeemer was baptized at the age of 19 years by the elder Frank Goertz, and became a member of the Gnadenfeld church.

She was united in holy wedlock to Heinrich G. Regier in 1888, with whom she shared life’s joys and sorrows for over 56 years; until death took her husband from her side Aug. 7, 1944.

In 1899 the family, then numbering father and mother and six children, landed safely in New York. Then they came to McPherson, Kansas and bought a farm two miles west of the Alta Mill. The mother also endured the many hardships of pioneer life, but the Lord blessed her in the many duties that a mother performs in bringing up children, of whom four passed away in early infancy.

The departed suffered much sickness throughout her lifetime but bore her afflictions patiently. She took special care for the spiritual upbringing of her family. She was a member of the Hebron church at Buhler, Kansas, where she with her husband and children feasted on the Bread of Life as it was given them throughout their lifetime. She spent much time in intercessory prayer for her children and many friends. The last one and one-half years of her life she spent with her daughter Margaret (Mrs. Dan Duerksen) west of Goessel, Kansas, where she received the best of care. In the last days she suffered exceedingly and spent about three weeks in bed at the home of her daughter, Margaret. later she was transferred to the Bethesda hospital where she remained eight days, until the angel of Death called her Jan. 20 at 6:15 p.m. She reached the age of 82 years, six months and 11 days. Even though the best medical aid was given her, yet her spirit left this house of clay to journey to that eternal home to which she longed to go.

Those who mourn her departure are her children: Katy, Mrs. A. R. Siemens of Burrton; Henry L. Regier, of Buhler; Margaret, Mrs. Dan Duerksen of Canton; John L. Regier of Burrton; David L. Regier of Buhler; Annie, Mrs. J. P. Franz, of Buhler; Lizzie, Mrs. W. T. Dick, of Burrton; Jacob L. Regier of Burrton; Edward L. Regier of Burrton; 21 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one half-sister. Mrs. Jacob Franz, and many relatives and friends.

Psalm 23:4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me: thy rod and they staff they comfort me.”

The funeral services took place in the home of Mrs. Dan Duerksen near Goessel and the Hebron church at Buhler on Jan. 26, 1947. Services were in charge of Rev. Philip A. Wedel of the Alexanderwohl church, assisted by Rev. J. M. Regier of the Johannesthal church, Hillsboro.
