— Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Regier, 93, who was among the pioneer settlers in the Buhler community, were held Saturday afternoon at the West Zion Mennonite church in Moundridge, Rev. Harris Waltner and Rev. P. K. Regier officiating. Mrs. Regier died Sept. 16 at the Mercy hospital in Moundridge. A native of South Russia, she came to the Buhler community in 1874 at the age of eight. She and her husband, the late Frank Regier, lived in the Moundridge community for many years. Survivors include three daughters, one son, two step-sons, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren,and one brother, John Buller of Buhler.

MRS. FRANK REGIER

Katherine Regier, daughter of Peter and Helena buller, was born in Paulsheim, South Russia on July 21, 1866. When she was eight years of age she came to the United States with her family, who made the long journey in1874. they settled near Buhler, Kansas.

On May 13, 1888, she was united in marriage with Frank Regier, when she also became the mother of three children from her husband's former marriage. In succeeding years seven daughters and two sons were born to this family. However, two children died in infancy.

The lived on a farm southwest of Moundridge until 1918 when they moved to Moundridge.

Upon her confession of faith in Christ she was baptized in the Hoffnungsau church on Nov. 29, 1885 by Elder Dietrich Gaeddert. Later she was a member of the Hebron Mennonite church and after moving to Moundridge she became a member of the West Zion Mennonite church.

She was blessed with strength of body and mind. She possessed the stamina of faith which enabled her to endure the many experiences of a long life. Her earthly life came to a close early Wednesday morning, Sept. 16, when her spirit returned to God. Her last days were spent in Mercy hospital. She reached the age of 93 years, one month and 26 days.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Mary of Livermore, Calif., Helen of Moundridge, and Margaret and husband, Dr. Herbert Eitzen of Hillsboro, Kan., one son, Frank and wife Hope of Ness City, Kan.; two step-sons, Ben and wife Mildred of Hesston, and Pete and wife Emma of Halstead; one brother, John Buller and wife of Buhler; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Peter Regier of Buhler; 12 grand children; 22 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1943, one son, five daughters, one step-daughter, and a number of brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Sept. 20 in the West Zion Mennonite church at Moundridge, Kan. with P. K. Regier officiating.

Interment was made in the Hebron cemetery near Buhler, Kansas.

CORRECTION

Through a typographical error it was reported in a recent issue of the Review that Rev. P. K. Regier officiated at the funeral of Mrs. Frank Regier in the West Zion Mennonite church on Sept. 20. The obituary should have read: “With Rev. Harris Waltner and Rev. P. K. Regier officiating.”
