MRS. JACOB L. REGIER

Mrs. Ida Ratzlaff Regier, our dear wife and mother, daughter of John and Sarah Klassen Ratzlaff, was born on Oct. 29, 1902, in Reno County, Kansas, northeast of Buhler.

She received her elementary education in Union and Buhler grade schools and later attended the Hoffnungsau Preparatory School.

She grew up in a Christian home. She attended church regularly with her parents and this she continued to do with greater zeal in later life with her family.

Upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, she was baptized June 4, 1922, by Elder Abraham Ratzlaff and became a member of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. She was a faithful member of that church till after her marriage when she transferred her membership to the Hebron Mennonite Church, and here she remained a devoted member until her departure.

Mother's great concern was the fellowship of the church. She longed many times to take a greater part in the activities of the church but the great responsibilities of the home required much of her time.

On Nov.3, 1926, she was united in marriage to Jacob L. Regier at Buhler, Kansas. They shared 31 years and 16 days of happy married life on a farm east of Buhler. This union was blessed with five sons and two daughters with whom she and her husband shared many joys. Mother was concerned about her children and grandchildren and prayed often for their spiritual welfare.

She was a loving wife and mother who leaves a noble heritage to her family. She was of a friendly and congenial nature, never complaining or thinking of herself but mindful always of those about her. She was thankful for the good health that she enjoyed.

In April of 1956, however, her health began to fail. She was admitted to the hospital a number of times and was always happy when she could return to be with her family. On Nov. 6 she entered the Bethel Deaconess Hospital and remained there till the Lord took her home on Nov. 19, 1927, at 5:25 a. m. She reached the age of 55 years and 20 days.

To us as husband and children this is not the end, but the beginning of a lifetime of beautiful memories.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Ratzlaff.

Surviving her is her kind and devoted husband, Jacob L. Regier; seven children, Richard L. and wife Lorita of Buhler, Linda and husband Ike Pauls of Buhler, Shirley and husband John Ediger of Inman, Orval, Leland, Clifford, and Clayton, all of the home; four grandchildren; her aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Ratzlaff of Buhler; eight sisters, Lizzie, Mrs. Frank W. Kroeker of Hutchinson, Helen, Mrs. Peter Buller of Buhler, Katie, Mrs. Frank Quiring of Newton, Mary, Mrs. John L. Reiger of Burrton, Minnie, Mrs. Henry F. Toews of McPherson, Emma, Mrs. Aaron Willems of Inman, Hilda, Mrs. Frank Dick of Buhler, and Dorothy, Mrs. Elmer Regehr of Inman. Also remaining are ten sister-in-laws, 16 brother-in-laws, and eighty nephews and nieces and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Nov. 22, 1957, at the Hebron Mennonite Church with Rev. O'Ray Graber and Rev. A. J. Dyck officiating. She was laid to rest in the Heron Cemetery, Buhler, Kansas.
