HERMAN REGIER

Herman Regier, son of Aberaham [sic Abraham] and Marie (Horn) Regier, was born three miles north of Cordell, Okla on Nov. 10, 1903. He reached the age of 66 years, five months and 13 days.

He attended Greenfield and Shelly schools. In later years he chose farming as an occupation. Herman resided in Washita County all his life. He had lived in the present home since 1948.

On May 16, 1921, Herman was baptized by Elder H. Riesen upon his confession of faith and was received as a member of the Herold Mennonite Church and remained a member till his death.

On Aug. 4, 1935, he was married to Emma Ruth Balzer. God blessed this union with two girls and a boy. They were the pride and joy of the home.

In 1955 Herman suffered a severe heart attack and 12 days later it redeveloped. After a year of convalescing, he was able to resume some of the responsibilities that he loved, but remained under doctor's care and was hospitalized a number of times for various reasons.

On Nov. 26, 1969, he was informed he had cancer and later entered the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City for lung surgery and treatment. He remained 63 days. After 16 days at home he was admitted to the St. Anthony's Hospital for more treatments. Herman was able to come home eight days later. Although he was suffering so much, he was thankful to be at home with his family. On April 1, he was hospitalized at Cordell, and on April 23, 1970, the Lord called him home.

During all of his suffering and pain there would always be a friendly "Hi" or a warm handclasp, his concern was for others. He often spoke of the bitterness in the world and how he hoped and prayed that there would be more love among fellowmen.

He is survived by his wife Emma of the home; a son Herman Regier Jr. and wife Linda of Cordell; two daughters, Emma Jean Wood and husband A. G. Wood of Cordell, and Mrs. Agnes Marie Wampler and husband Joe Wampler of St. Albans, West Va.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Art Regier and Gus Regier, both of Cordell, three sisters-in-law, all of Cordell, many relatives and a host of friends.

His parents, three brothers, George, Barney and Cornelius, and sister-in-law, Katie, preceded him in death. — The Family.
