text of obituary:
HENRY G. REGIER
Henry G. Regier was born Sept. 21, 1861, near the Volga in Russia. His parents moved to Rudnerwiede where he received his education.
At the age of 20 he attended instruction class, was converted and on Pentecost Sunday was baptized by Elder Franz Goertzen, Gnadenfeld, and admitted to membership in the Rudnerweide congregation.
October 25, 1888, he was united in marriage with Katharina Loewen; who shared joys and sorrows with him these 56 years. This union was blessed with 13 children, four preceding him in death.
Feb. 3, 1899, the family sailed for America and settled in Harvey county. Here he joined the Hebron church, of which he remained a faithful member until his death.
Our father enjoyed good health the greater part of his life. In January 1944 he became sick with the flu and was bedfast since that time. On June 20, he had a stroke and another on the 22nd at which time his left side became paralyzed. He gradually became weaker and at midnight, August 7-8 he quietly departed this life at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 14 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure his bereaved widow; five sons, Henry L., John L., David L., Jacob L., Edd. L.; four daughters, Mrs. A. R. Siemens, Mrs. Dan Duerksen, Mrs. J. R. Franz, Mrs. Will Dick; 4 sons-in-law; 5 daughters-in-law; 31 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
One of his favorite songs was “Close to Thee.”
Thou, my everlasting portion,
More than friend or life to me;
All along my pilgrim journey,
Saviour let me walk with Thee.
Lead me through the vale of shadows,
Bear me o’er life’s fitful sea;
Then the gate of life eternal
May I enter Lord with Thee.
Close to Thee, Close to Thee
All along my pilgrim journey,
Saviour, let me walk with Thee.
