GUSTAV H. REGIER
Gustav H. Regier, son of Gerhard and Anna Ensz Regier, was born September 19, 1869, in Marienburg, Germany. In 1876 at the age of six he with his parents, brothers and sisters emigrated to America settling on the farm four and one half miles northeast of Whitewater, Kansas on which he lived for 72 years.
On June 14, 1886, he was baptized on confession of his faith by Rev. Leonard Suderman and was received into the membership of the Emmaus Mennonite church of which he remained a member until his death.
On January 5, 1905, he was united in marriage with Ella Claassen of Whitewater. To this union God gave two sons and two daughters. In 1930 the Lord permitted them to celebrate their Silver Wedding anniversary in which they expressed their gratitude to God for His goodness toward them. He was a loving husband and father and always appreciated the company of his children and grandchildren.
In May of 1948 he with his wife moved to Whitewater, retiring from active farm life. He always enjoyed visiting with relatives, friends and neighbors, and during his illness he was especially grateful and blessed by those who stopped in to visit with him.
He had good health until about two years ago when it began to fail. The Lord has given grace and strength to his wife and children to take care of him. He lapsed into a coma Thursday evening and as his condition grew worse he was taken to the Axtell Hospital in Newton on Saturday evening, where he quietly passed away the following day, August 12, 1951, at 4:45 p. m., attaining the age of 81 years, 10 months and 23 days.
Surviving him are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. C. B. Thierstein of Whitewater, and Mrs. Herman Klaassen of Newton; two sons, Gus H. Jr. and W. G. Regier, both of Whitewater; two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
We sorrow not as those who have no hope, but are “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity." Titus 2:13-14.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, August 14 at the Emmaus church with Rev. Walter H. Dyck in charge. Missionary P. W. Penner spoke in the home.
