Kansas Soldier Drowns in Vietnam
Liberal, Kan. — Funeral services for Pfc. Raymond Dean Regier, 20, who drowned Feb. 5 while serving in Vietnam, were conducted last Sunday afternoon at the Calvary Mennonite Church here, Rev. Willard Stucky, the pastor, officiated.
The young man was attempting to pull a wounded serviceman into a helicopter when his safety belt broke and he fell into the sea. He was the 14th Seward County serviceman to die in action in Vietnam.
A 1968 graduate of Liberal High School, he was employed by a lumber firm here before enlisting in the Army in March 1968.
Survivors include his father, Elmer H. Regier of rural Liberal; his mother, Mrs. Betty L. Regier, of Topeka; four brothers and two sisters.
