— Relatives and friends from Newton attended funeral services at the Burrton Mennonite Church last Sunday afternoon for Albert Regier, 67, who died unexpectedly at his home in Burrton on Wednesday. Rev. Gideon G. Yoder, the pastor officiated. Mr. Regier farmed near Burrton for a number of years before moving to town. Surviving are his widow, Thelma; four daughters, Mrs. Velma Klingenberg of Dinuba, Calif., Mrs. Hilda Claassen of Elbing, Mrs. Elnore Schrag of Newton and Mrs. Elizabeth Claassen of Burrton; one son, Harold of North Newton; 10 grandchildren; and a brother, Otto, of Buhler.

ALBERT REGIER

Our husband and father, Albert Regier, was born on March 4, 1891, at Moundridge, Kansas, the oldest of three sons born to Abraham and Elizabeth (Kliewer) Regier. He passed from this life in his home at Burrton, Kansas at 5:00 p. m. April 16, reaching the age of 67 years, one month and 12 days.

Our father grew up on a farm near Moundridge. He received his early education at Paris School in Alta Township. He later attended the Hillsboro Preparatory School in charge of H. D. Penner, mother's uncle. He also attended the academy at Bethel College for a years.

In 1907 he moved with his parental family to Gotebo, Okla. where he lived for one year. The family then returned to Kansas in 1909, moving to a farm near Burrton where he lived until retiring from the farm in April of 1956.

While living in Oklahoma our father was baptized upon the confession of his faith by Rev. J. J. Kliewer and united with the Friedenstahl Mennonite Church. It happened that both he and mother were baptized with the same class though their paths again parted when he moved to California. In 1910 he united with the Burrton Mennonite Church where he remained a member until his death.

On Sept. 2, 1916, after returning to Kansas, he was married to Selma Gertrude Penner. Five children, four daughters and one son, were born to this union. God permitted them to share this union for over 41 years.

Dad was always faithful to the church. He was especially interested in the music of the church, participating in quartet singing frequently. On the last Sunday of his life here on earth he sang two numbers in a quartet at the ground-breaking service for the new Burrton Mennonite Church. This was an occasion he looked forward to with much anticipation. The quartet that furnished the music at the funeral was the same one in which he sang the Sunday before his death, with another member filling his place.

For several months he had been suffering from digestive trouble and was under medical care. On the Monday before his passing he submitted to a more thorough clinical test at which time an appointment was made for taking x-rays on Thursday. However, on Wednesday, he became more seriously ill, suffering from an internal hemorrhage. He unexpectedly passed to his eternal reward the same afternoon.

He is survived by his widow, Selma Penner Regier; five children, Hilda and husband Oswald Klassen of Elbing, Velma and husband Herman Klingenberg of Dinuba, Calif., Elnora and husband Harold Schrag of Newton, Elizabeth and husband Peter Klassen of Busston, and Harold and wife Rosella of North Newton; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Otto and wife Frieda of Buhler; his father-in-law Isaac Penner of the Bethel Home for the Aged, Newton; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his mother-in-law, one brother, Ed, and one granddaughter, LaVonne Schrag.

Funeral services were held at the Burrton Mennonite Church on April 20, with Rev. Gideon Yoder in charge. Burial was in the Burrton cemetery. — The Family.
