A. R. Regier

Abraham R. Regier, son of Jacob and Katharina (Regier) Regier, was born March 14,1873, in Sough Russia. At the age of approximately two years he came to central Kansas, U. S. A., with his parents who settled in Harvey County, and here he grew to manhood on his parents' farm. He attended the preparatory school which was located about one mile east of Buhler. He also had the privilege of attending Wichita Business College for a short time.

With his parents he attended the Hebron Mennonite Church from childhood on, and here he learned to know Christ, whom he accepted as his Saviour and Lord. He was baptized on May 20, 1890, upon his personal confession by Elder Bernhard Buhler and became a member of the Hebron Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful member until his departure from this life. Father was very much interested in church and Sunday school and took an active part, serving in various offices, especially as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Whenever problems arose in church or in the home he always sought for a peaceful solution.

On Nov. 8, 1896, he was united in marriage to Nettie Reimer with whom he shared joys and sorrows for 56 and one-half years. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Anniverary and their 55th wedding anniversary before our mother preceded him in death on April 24, 1952. To this union were born 11 children, seven girls and four boys, four of whom died in infancy. Both parents were greatly concerned for the welfare and particularly the spiritual welfare of each of the children.

Shortly after mother and father were married they made their home in Harvey County where father worked at a local creamery. He served on the board of directors of several business enterprises where his counsel and advice was often sought. However, most of his life was spent as a farmer. Father and mother made their home in Hesston, Kansas during the later years of their married life.

Following the death of our mother, father spent some time living in the homes of his children. In November 1953 he entered the Bethel Home for the Aged at Newton, where he made his home until his death at 7:55 a. m. Oct. 28, 1958. He reached the age of 85 years, seven months and 24 days.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Nettie, four children who died in infancy, one brother, Jake R., three sisters, Katherine, Mrs. Peter Lohrentz, Lizzie, Mrs. Abe Siemens, and Miss Mary Regier, and four grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Abe R. and wife of Moundridge, Ben and wife and Otto and wife, all of Hutchinson; four daughters, Nettie, Mrs. Herman Kliewer of Moundridge, Katie, Mrs. H. P. Penner of Latham, Kansas, Sara, Mrs. George Peters of Newton, and Rosella, Mrs. Floyd Jines of Perryton, Texas, a brother, John R. and wife of Buhler; two sisters, Sarah and Helena, Mrs. Cornelius Franz, both of Buhler; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Although his passing and the vacancy he leaves will be very keenly felt, we as a family wish him this much longed-for eternal rest. — The Family.
