DAVID J. REGEHR
Funeral services for David J. Regehr, 82, were held at the Bethel Mennonite Church, Mt. Lake, Minn. on Nov. 18. Mr. Regehr passed away at Bethel Hospital, Mt. Lake, on Nov. 14. Rev. Albert Gaeddert officiated. Interment was in the Mt. Lake cemetery.
David J. Regehr was the son of Johan and Maria (Nickel) Regehr. He was born in South Russia and came to this country with his parents when he was still an infant. His parents settled on a farm northwest of Mt. Lake. Here he grew up and attended as much school as he could.
With his parents he went to the EMB church in Mt. Lake. His father died when he was 15 years of age, which made it necessary for him to make his own way at an early age.
In May of 1902 he was baptized by Rev. H. H. Regier, and received into the membership of the Bethel Mennonite church. He retained his membership here for the rest of his life.
On May 13, 1906 he was married to Margaretha Penner of the Bergfelder church. Together they shared joys and sorrows of wedded life for more than 49 years. She died in 1955. To this union were born 10 children, one of whom died in infancy.
He was one of 12 children. Most of his brothers and sisters moved to Canada.
He was a carpenter for some time and later he moved onto a farm. Most of their married life they lived near or in Mt. Lake, with the exception of four years in Oklahoma, and less than a year in Scinook, Mont. His last years were spent at the Eventide Home in Mt. Lake, the Cassel Rest Home, Worthington, and at the Nursing Home in Mt. Lake.
He leaves a family of nine children. They are: Marie, Mrs. Gerhard Franzen and family of Canton, Kan.; Hilda, Mrs. Peter J. Duerksen and family of Mt. Lake; Henry and family of Mora, Minn.; David and family of Jeffers; Londo and family of Butterfield; Margaret, Mrs. John Kliewer and family of Stockholm, Nebr.; Harry and family of Mt. Lake; Rosella, Mrs. Ervin Neufeld, and family of Mt. Lake; and Albert and family of Butterfield. There are 46 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Enns of British Columbia; and many nieces and nephews. — The Family.
