Peter R. Redekopp
Peter R. Redekopp of Winkler, Man. passed away Mar. 29. He was born Dec. 22, 1911 to Peter and Helena Redekopp in Russia. When he was 13, the family immigrated to Canada. He helped on his father's farm in Gnadenthal, Man. In 1946 he married Anne Wiebe of Morris, Man. They lived in Reinland, Man. for 7 years, where he managed the first cheese-making industry. They moved to Winkler for 7 years and then to a hobby farm near Winkler. He introduced cheese-making at Winkler Creamery. He helped start the first cannery in Winkler. He later became manager of Winkler Feed Service. After retirement, they and their daughter operated Rede-Pak Sales for 9 years. He spent many hours playing with his children when they were young and offered quiet guidance and ceaseless prayer as they grew up. He was on numerous community committees and cooperatives, did volunteer work for the Association for Handicapped People and was on the board of Linden Place Home. He was sensitive to the needy and in a quiet way introduced his love for God to those he met. He was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church; he was usher coordinator for a number of years and enjoyed church, Sunday school and music. He developed cancer 9 years ago but recovered until a year ago. During this time he spent many hours in prayer and seeking the Lord's will. Predeceased by son Lorne in 1968 and 1 brother, he is mourned by his wife; sons Dennis of Campbell River, B.C., Gladwin of Prince George, B.C. and Gerald of Chetwynd, B.C.; daughters Alvera of White Rock, B.C. and Naomi of Winkler; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 4 sisters. The funeral was Apr. 2 in Winkler MB Church, with Wally Klassen and Jake Neufeld ministering.
