HENRY H. REDEKOP
On May 3, 1967, the Rev. H. H. Redekop passed away in Winnipeg as the result of a heart attack. He can now say with Paul: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
He was born on May 18, 1904, in Kronstal, South Russia, the child of Heinrich and Susanna Redekop, and attended both elementary and secondary schools in Russia. At the age of 16 he dedicated himself to the Lord, was baptized and became a member of the MB church.
In 1923 he emigrated to Canada together with his family, and settled near Kelstern, Saskatchewan. It had been his wish to attend Bible school while still in Russia but this wish did not materialize. In 1926 he entered the Winkler Bihle School where he received direction for the rest of his life. After Bible school he attended high school and in 1937 he received his Licentiate in theology from United College. In 1911 he graduated as Bachelor of Arts and in 1960 he received the Bachelor of Divinity degree, also from United College.
Mr. Redekop was married in 1935 and ordained to the ministry of the Mennonite Brethren church in 1910. His aim always was to further the work of the Lord. The longest period of his service, from 1938 to 1956, he dedicated to the Bible school at Winkler, serving first as a teacher and later as the principal. Although he experienced problems, the Lord gave him much joy in his work, and wonderful victories.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and their wives, two daughters and one son-in-law, one grandson, two brothers, three sisters and three aunts.
