SARA ADRIAN RATZLAFF
Sara Adrian Ratzlaff, daughter of Jacob P. and Mary Loewen Adrian, was born May 12, 1895 on a farm in Hutchinson County near Dolton, S. D., where she grew to womanhood and received a limited education.
On Aug. 23, 1914 she was united in marriage to Henry Ratzlaff of Freeman, S. D. This union of over 50 years was blessed with three children.
She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour on May 3, 1916, was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church at Poplar, Mont. Two years later she transferred her membership to the Silver Lake M. B. Church of which she remained a faithful member to her death.
Mother showed her concern and interest in the church by serving as a leader in the Mission Society, helping with the custodian work of the church for many years, and teaching various Sunday school classes for nearly 40 years.
Nearly seven years ago she had s major operation. At that time she was told that she had cancer. She never complained but rather was always concerned for the needs of others. With determination she kept herself busy and smilingly bore her affliction.
She spent the last five weeks in the hospital. On Jan. 21 she peacefully went to her heavenly home. She reached the age of 71 years and eight months.
She leaves her husband; one son Irvin of Canoga Park, Calif.; two daughters, Delila (Mrs. Herman Deckert) and Arlyss (Mrs. Alvin Ortman); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Pete, of Marion; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at the Silver Lake Church with Rev. Vernon R. Duerksen and Rev. Menno Schellenberg officiating.
