MRS. MARIE REGIER RATZLAFF
Marie, daughter of Dietrich and Justina (Dick) Enns, was born May 7, 1896, three miles east of Buhler, Kan.
She received her elementary education in the Lakeside and Buhler schools. She spent a year in the Hoffnungsau Preparatory School and in 1914-15 attended Kansas State College at Manhattan for a home-economics course.
In her early years her parents homesteaded some land near Hooker, Okla. Since there were no schools there at that time, the parents made the trip from Buhler to Hooker in the spring and back again in the fall, via covered wagon.
On June 9, 1912 she was baptized upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Rev. A. M. Martens and received into the membership of the Hebron Mennonite Church. After her marriage she transferred to the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church where she remained a faithful member and worker until her death.
On Sept. 16, 1917 she was united in marriage to D. C. Regier. They moved on the Regier farm six miles east of Buhler. To this union two daughters were born: Marjorie (Mrs. Dan Nachtigal) and Anna Marie (Mrs. Wayne Jantz). Mother had a cheerful disposition and loved to sing hymns while she did her work. She enjoyed God's great outdoors and loved to travel.
Her husband passed away April 25, 1951. She continued to live on the farm until 1959 when she moved to Buhler.
After living alone for ten years mother was married to Abraham Ratzlaff on June 4, 1961. Although brief, their marriage was full of joy.
On June 12 mother entered Bethel Hospital in Newton. She returned to her home on Oct. 21. Mother was ready to go into eternity and early Saturday morning, Dec. 3, she was called to her heavenly home. She reached the age of 70 years, six months and 26 days.
One sister, Justina, and one brother, Dick, preceded her in death.
Besides her husband, Abraham, she leaves her daughter, Marjorie and husband, Dan Nachtigal and two children; daughter Anne Marie and husband Wayne Jantz and three children; two step-children and their families; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Ratzlaff and Mrs. Emma Regier; five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Rev. P. K. Regier.
