Peter J. Quiring was born Feb. 24, 1892, at Khiva (Turkestan), Russia, to Peter A. and Renate Jantzen Quiring. He died Feb. 2, 1986, at Dallas, Ore.

At the age of about one year, he migrated to Beatrice, Neb., with his parents and sister. Within a year they settled on a homestead at Bessie, Okla., where other relatives had already settled. About a decade before, his parents had been part of the group that followed Claas Epp on "The Great Trek" (1880-84).

He was baptized in 1909 by his uncle Michael Klassen. In 1917 he married Helena Dalke. Eleven children were born to them.

Three months after their wedding, he was inducted into the U. S. Army. Because of his conscientious objector convictions, he was court-martialed and sentenced to 25 years at the Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., federal prison. He served one year of his sentence, being released when the war ended.

They began farming in Oklahoma, but later moved to Madrid, Neb. In 1943 the family moved to Dallas, Ore.

In 1974 they moved to a rest home, where his wife died within the year and where he lived until his death. He spent those years in Bible study and conducting Bible studies in the home. He was active in the Evangelical Free Church in Dallas.

Surviving are four sons and their spouses, Gustav and Jane (Friesen) Quiring, Elmer and Irene (Unger) Quiring, Walter and Anne (Harms) Quiring and John and Sharon (Reimer) Quiring, all of Dallas; five daughters and their husbands, Verna and Norma Kroeker of Henderson, Neb., Lorena and George Thompson of Nezperce, Idaho, Wanda and Albert Graham of Monmouth, Ore., Freida and Robert Trussell of Salem, Ore., and Martha and Harvey Wall of Dallas, Ore.; 31 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Herman Quiring and Henry Quiring of Cordell, Okla.; two half-sisters, Susie and Paul Hertzler of Dill City, Okla., and Annie Quiring.

PETER J. QUIRING

Peter J. Quiring was born Feb. 24, 1892, at Khiva (Turkestan), Russia, to Peter A. and Renate Jantzen Quiring. He died Feb. 2, 1986, at Dallas, Ore.

At the age of about one year, he migrated to Beatrice, Neb., with his parents and sister. Within a year they settled on a homestead at Bessie, Okla., where other relatives had already settled.
