text of obituary:
MRS. P. H. QUIRING
Maria (Hamm) Quirng, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Hamm, was born in Minnesota, near the village of Mt. Lake, on Feb. 27, 1883, and died Nov. 2, 1955 at the age of 72 years, eight months and six days.
As a young girl she acknowledged her lost condition and accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Saviour. Upon the confession of her faith she was baptized by Elder Aaron Wall and received into the membership of the E. M. B. church at Mt. Lake.
On May 7, 1905 she was united in marriage with P. H. Quiring by Elder Aaron Wall. This was the last couple Elder Wall married, since he died a few months later. To this union were born six children, two boys David and Henry, and four girls, Mary, Martha, Kathryn and Helen. We established our home in the village of Mt. Lake, where we lived for 12 years. In the spring of 1917 we moved to Chinook, Mont. Here we met with difficulties and hardships, such as hail, drought, hot winds and no crops.
In July 1919 we came to Dallas, Oregon, where we have lived until the time of her passing. We joined the E. M. B. church in Dallas, where she remained a faithful member till the time of her going home to be with the Lord. She was a hard worker as long as her health permitted. In 1945, while working in the cannery in Salem, she suffered a stroke which caused a total paralysis for some time. She recovered to such an extent that she was able to be up and around by using crutches, and did all the necessary housework, although her left side was paralyzed the rest of her life. I took her to church on the wheel chair.
Early this spring internal pains set in. When the became worse the doctor was called and X-ray pictures revealed that she had cancer. She suffered a great deal through these months. However, we had the privilege of celebrating our golden wedding anniversary in church. This was the last time she was able to be in church. She was bedfast for over three months. Through all this time of suffering her trust was in the Lord, with the blessed assurance that He will do all things right. She prayed much and sang many of her favorite songs. Her last prayer was, "Lord Jesus take me by thine hand and lead me home." Her prayer was answered Wednesday, evening, Nov. 2, at 7:40 p.m.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Hamm, four brothers and two sisters, and one grandchild. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, P. H. Quiring; two sons, David and Henry; four daughters, Mary, Martha, Kathryn, and Helen; two daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, 12 grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers-in-law, and a host of relatives and friends.
She was a praying mother and we have the blessed hope of meeting her again in glory. "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." 2 Cor. 5:1. — P. H. Quiring and Children.
