JOHN QUIRING

John Quiring, the son of Johann and Elizabeth (nee Willems) Quiring, was born in Mountain Lake, Minnesota on April 7, 1894. As a young boy he emigrated with his parents to Rosthern, Saskatchewan in 1899. In 1909 they moved to Dalmeny, Sask; upon his father's retirement, John Quiring took over the farm, and, though he encountered many financial hardships, God blessed the tireless efforts of his hands. As a youth he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He was baptized by Rev. Jacob Wiens in 1908 and joined the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church in Laird, Sask. As a member of the church he has served in numerous committees, and was also active in community affairs.

On April 5, 1916 he married Helena Lepp. God blessed them with eight children, one of whom predeceased them. The Quirings farmed until 1958 and then moved to a home they had purchased in Saskatoon. In 1975 they moved into the Central Haven Home, but Mr. Quiring's stay was to be short. In June, 1976 he suffered a stroke and was hospitalized. Another seizure on January 10 led to his passing that day, his soul transferred into the kingdom of light.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Helena; his children and their families, Ruby (Mrs. Abe) Pauls, Walter and Frances, Viola (Mrs. Harold) Neufeld and Art and Elene of Saskatchewan; Wilmer and Jean of Fresno, California; Louise, also of Fresno; and Sophie (Mrs. John) Esau of Debert, Nova Scotia; 29 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters; and a host of relatives and friends.
