PASTOR'S WIFE CALLED AWAY IN DEATH AT MOUNTAIN LAKE, MINN.

Mt. Lake, Minn. — Funeral services for Mrs. H. H. Quiring, 72, were held at the Gospel Mennonite church here Sunday afternoon July 13. Rev. John P. Suderman in charge. She died at the home here on July 9.

Mrs. Quiring is survived by her husband, Rev. H. H. Quiring, and nine children. A daughter, Mrs. Elmer Dick, and family left here for the mission field in the Belgian Congo only a few weeks ago.

MRS. H. H. QUIRING

My beloved wife was born April 10, 1880, in Pastwa, South Russia. She attended Bible School in Russia where she memorized many Bible verses and songs. On Pentecost Day of 1898 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour by Elder Henry Quiring and was received as a member of the Bergfelder, now the Gospel Mennonite church.

We were united in marriage on April 8, 1901. For fifty-one years we have lived and enjoyed the joys and sorrows of married life. In 1926 we celebrated the silver wedding and in 1951 the golden wedding. We are grateful toward God for the many years of blessings received during this period of married life.

Mrs. Quiring was not a public speaker, but believed as is found in I Peter 3:1 “Likewise, ye wives be in subjection to your own husbands, that if any obey not the Word they also may without the Word be won by the conversation of the wives." She felt that her calling was to bring up a family by the grace of God that would be a blessing to this world. She believed in simplicity and thriftiness and often talked about Verses 3 and 4 of I Peter, Chapter 3, "Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning; but let it be the hidden man of the heart in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” I Peter 3:1-5 was used as our wedding text.

She often quoted in her prayer Ephesians 3:20, "Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us." Before her eyesight failed, she read her Bible, and later she found much consolation in listening to Gospel radio programs.

This union was blessed with ten children of whom nine are still living. One child, Cornelius died in infancy. Those surviving are: Henry S. Quiring, Marion, South Dakota; Sarah, Mrs. Henry Penner, Darfur, Minnesota; Anna in Africa, Helen, Mrs. Jacob N. Sawatzky, Mountain Lake; Rev. Sam Quiring, Spokane, Washington; Tina of Africa; Elizabeth, Mrs. Garvin Clevenger, Lima, Ohio; Esther, Mrs. Elmer Dick of Africa; and Marie, Mrs. Rudy Janzen of Mountain Lake. Charles and Mabel Lough, nephew and niece, also came to make their home with us for several years. There are also 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.

She was failing in health the last ten years. It was during the last five days of her life that she became seriously ill. The best medical care did not improve her condition. She passed away quietly with an assuring smile on her face, at 4:40 Wednesday morning, July 9, at the age of 72 years and three months.

We sorrow not as those who have no hope, but have the assurance that she is in the presence of the Lord where we shall meet her at His Coming. — Rev. H. H. Quiring.
