GARY QUIRING

Gary Quiring was born on Sept. 7, 1942, in Reedley, Calif. He attended the elementary schools and took a great delight in his studies, always making good grades. After finishing grade school, he entered the Immanuel Academy Christian High School in Reedley where he excelled in sports, especially as a tennis player, as well as being one of the top students in the school. Upon his graduation, he was presented with the Bausch and Lomb Science Award in recognition of his outstanding scholastic achievements.

Gary enrolled in Sunday school as a very young child and always was eager to attend this as well as the church services. As a result, early in life he came under conviction that he was a sinner and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. To this he gave witness in the home as well as publicly in church. On April 7, 1955, he was baptized upon his confession of faith and united with the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church for fellowship.

Two years ago he became ill and his sickness was diagnosed as glomerial nephrosis [sic Glomerulonephritis]. He spent a number of weeks in the San Francisco Memorial Hospital as well as some time in the local hospital. He had a great faith that God was going to heal him. Gary often prayed for the healing of his body, that he might follow his interest in life by helping humanity by being a Christian pharmacist. However, through his great suffering, the day arrived when he asked the Lord to deliver him from his present pain. This deliverence came Thursday, Feb. 1, at about 10 p.m. He left much too early in life and leaves a vacancy in our home which causes us to have very heavy hearts. However, we want to submit to the will of the Lord and look forward to when we shall meet him again. He reached the age of 19 years, four months, and 24 days.

He leaves to mourn at his early departure the following: His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Quiring of Reedley, Calif.; two brothers, Paul, 12, and Gregory, 3. One sister, Kathaleen [sic Kathleen], preceded him in death at the age of 16 months as the result of an accident. He also leaves his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Dick of Reedley; 13 uncles, 14 aunts, and many other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 5, in the Mennonite Brethren Church, Reedley, Calif., with the pastor, Rev. Dan Friesen, officiating.
