FRIEDA QUIRING
Frieda Quiring, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth, nee Ratzlaff, was born October 1913, near Corn, Okla. Here she spent the days of her youth; she was a strong and healthy child, very active and full of ambition. She started her education at the Pleasant View School. After two years her parents moved to the present home four miles south and two miles east of Weatherford, where she completed the eighth grade at the Missouri District School.
In January 1929 she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour from sin, during a revival meeting at Corn. In June 1931 she was baptized upon her confession of Faith by Rev. J. J. Kroeker and joined the Bessie Mennonite Brethren church, where she remained a member until her death. In 1931 she graduated from the Corn Bible School and completed her high school education in Weatherford in May 1932.
In 1934 she started her college education at Wheaton College. While there she felt the call to prepare for the mission field in Africa. In February 1937 Frieda became ill and had to come home. After a short stay at home she went back, determined to finish her college work. But her condition did not permit the continuation of her education and with a heavy heart dropped further efforts. She was suffering from fainting spells and was often sick, which caused her to become very much discouraged at times since the future looked so dark.
She was taken to many doctors. In 1939 the doctors at the Mayo Clinic advised an operation. In 1942 she was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital where a tumor was removed from the right side of her head. Although the operation was successful it caused her left side to become paralyzed and helpless. However she was able to be about and with the help of her loved ones she still attended church services from time to time. Already before the operation her eyesight was failing and afterwards she became completely blind. It was a source of great satisfaction to her that her grandmother, the late Mrs. H. Ratzlaff, would often sit with her and read to her out of God's word. When asked what she thought concerning death she said with a smile, "Then I'll be in heaven and be with Lazarus."
Since January of this year her condition gradually became worse and she passed to her heavenly home Friday, 3 a.m., September 27, 1946. She reached an age of 32 years 11 months and ten days. She leaves to mourn her early death her parents, Bro. and Sis. Henry Quiring; one brother Elmer; three sisters, Rachel of Hennessy, Oklahoma, Mrs. Evalena Kugel of Norman, and Blondeen; one brother-in-law, Bill Kugel, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Elmer Quiring; besides a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Frieda is now at home with her Jesus whom she loved and served. She wanted to go home and she was ready to go. Death for her held no terror — for her it truely [sic] was a sleep from which she was to awaken in the arms of her Saviour. In this we find our comfort and cheer. — The Family.
