CORNELIUS QUIRING

Cornelius Neil Quiring of Lucky Lake, Sask., was born to Abraham and Margaret Quiring on March 6, 1900, in Russia. The family emigrated to Canada in 1904, home steading in Manitoba before moving to Main Centre, Saskatchewan. His father died when he was 14, which forced him to fend for himself. When he was 20 he moved to California to work in orchards, ranches and on bridge construction. He returned to Canada in 1927 and worked in the Lucky Lake area for five years. He married Annie Olfert in 1932 and in 1936 they began farming on their own.

Mr. Quiring accepted Christ in 1943, was baptized in 1947 and joined the Western Children's Mission, which is now the Lucky Lake (Sask.) Mennonite Brethren Church. He was instrumental in establishing the work in Lucky Lake. He loved the farm and chose to stay there even when his health began to restrict his working ability. He passed away in his sleep at his farm near Lucky Lake on May 18, 1978.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, one sister and an infant son. Left to mourn are his beloved wife of 45 years, Annie; three sons: Jerry and his wife Ruby, Gary and his wife Sylvia and Jack, all of Regina, Sask.; three sisters in California: Faye (Mrs. Oscar) Collins, Peggy (Mrs. Troy) Bone and (Mrs.) Katherine King.
