Former Missionary To China Dies

Hillsboro, Kan. — The funeral service for Adelgunda Prieb, China missionary nurse of the Mennonite Brethren Church, was held here at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19.

Miss Prieb, who would have been 74 on Jan. 25, died here Monday morning, Jan. 16. She had been in failing health for several years.

She left for China in 1926 where she was engaged in missionary medical service. In 1934 political unrest in China hindered mission work so she returned to America and made her home here.

Miss Prieb was graduated from Tabor College academy in 1918 and from a four-year Bible course at Tabor in 1926. She received the RN degree from Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton in 1922.

She is survived by four brothers and their families: Jacob, John, and William, Hillsboro; and Peter, Inman.

The Mennonite Brethren Church assumed responsibility for a large area in southern China in 1919. When the last missionaries escaped in 1951, they left behind an organized indigenous church of several hundred members.
