• Emma Jean Preheim, 35, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, April 10, at Bethel Deaconess Hospital. She was a 1961 graduate of the Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and engaged in nursing in Minneapolis, Minn. until 1968, when forced to discontinue because of ill health. She had resided at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home since July 1972. A memorial service was conducted Saturday forenoon at the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Esko Loewen, co-pastor of the Bethel College Church, of which she was a member. The body was taken to Freeman, S. D., where another service was held Monday forenoon at the Walter Funeral Home with Rev. John Esau of the Bethel College Church officiating. Burial was made in the Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery near Freeman. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Edith Preheim of Newton; six brothers, Waldo of Moundridge, Dr. Delbert of Newton, Don of Wichita, Peter and Roland of Marion, S. D., and John of Elkhart, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Ted Preheim of Beatrice, Neb., Mrs. James Carlson of Wichita, and Mrs. Ivan Regier of Madrid, Neb.

Emma Jean, daughter of Peter and Edith Preheim, was born on Dec. 26, 1939 near Marion, S. D. and died at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton, Kan. on April 10, 1975 at the age of 35.

She was baptized by Rev. J. Herbert Fretz in 1956 and received into the Salem Mennonite Church near Freeman, S. D. In 1961 her membership was transferred to the Faith Mennonite Church, Minneapolis, Minn., where she was a charter member. At the time of her death she was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton, Kan. Throughout her life she maintained an avid interest in the church and its work.

Emma graduated from the Marion, S. D. High School, the Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, and the University of Minnesota. She followed her chosen profession of nursing for several years in Minneapolis until forced to discontinue because of illness.

Emma had resided in Kansas since 1969 and had made her home at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home since July 1972. Her death brought release from ; her suffering and handicaps resulting from diabetes, which she had had since childhood.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Edith Preheim of Newton; six brothers, Waldo of Moundridge, Delbert of Newton, Roland of Marion, S. D., Don of Wichita, Peter of Marion, S. D., and John of Elkhart, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Ted (Verna) Preheim of Beatrice, Neb., Mrs. James (Barbara) Carlson of Wichita, and Mrs. Ivan (Ann) Regier of Madrid, Neb.

Services were held April 12 at the Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, with Rev. Esko Loewen officiating. Also on April 14 at the Walters Funeral Chapel, Freeman, S. D., services were conducted by Rev. John Esau. Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Wilfred Ulrich at the Salem Mennonite Church cemetery.
