RUDOLPH PREHEIM

Rudolph Preheim, son of Jacob and Freni Kaufman Preheim, was born in Childstown Township, Turner County, S. D. on March 2, 1894.

He graduated from the elementary school, then attended two terms at the Freeman Academy. He taught elementary school for several years. He continued his studies at Black Hills Teachers College at Spearfish, S. D., and at General Beadle Teachers College at Madison.

Later he moved to Freeman, S. D., where he worked for the Carpenter's Lumber company and the Freeman Co-op Gas and Oil company. In 1939 he became custodian of Freeman Junior College, serving in that capacity for 16 years. After this he devoted his time to caring for his parents until their death in 1954.

On July 9, 1911, he was baptized by Rev. H. A. Bachman and joined the Salem Mennonite church. He was an active member, serving as the church's general treasurer.

He enjoyed good health until a year ago last July, when he submitted to surgery, from which he seemingly recovered. On Sept. 22, 1960, he became sick and was admitted to the Freeman hospital. He was later transferred to the Sioux Valley hospital in Sioux Falls, where he passed away on Oct. 8. He attained the age of 66 years, seven months, and six days.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by five brothers, Emil, Julius, Edward, Jacob, Roy and Otto; two sisters, Ida, (Mrs. Noa J. Mueller); and Edna, (Mrs. Floyd Graber); five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, all of the Freeman, S. D., area.
