KATIE MILLER PREHEIM
Katie (Miller) Preheim, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Schrag) Miler was born on Dec. 21, 1884 in Turner County, South Dakota. Her father died when she was still very young.
She was baptized and received into the Salem Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman, S. D., on Sept. 15, 1901. When the Salem Mennonite Church was organized, she became a charter member of this church.
On Oct. 17, 1907 she was married to Joseph J. Preheim. They shared life's joys and sorrows until the death of her husband on June 20, 1960. Four children were born to this union. Harriet, the only daughter, was taken away from them by drowning at the age of 18 months.
In 1909, mother and father homesteaded in Tripp County, later returning to the Freeman and Marion community where they devoted their life to farming. They took up residence at the Salem Home for Aged in Freeman in the fall of 1959.
Mother enjoyed exceptionally good health most of her life. She was taken to the Freeman Community Hospital on Jan. 25, 1967, where she died on March 22, 1967, having reached the age of 82 years and three months.
Surviving are her three sons, Ted of Beatrice, Neb., Clif of Freeman, and Reiny of Marion, and their companions; six grandchildren; two brothers, John of Freeman and Henry of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Lydia, Mrs. Henry P. Graber, and Mary, Mrs. John C. Graber, of Freeman.
