JOSEPH J. PREHEIM
Joseph J. Preheim, son of Jacob and Maria Waltner Preheim, was born Sept. 21, 1884, in Childstown Township, Turner County, South Dakota.
He was educated in the local elementary school, and also attended Bible School at Mountain Lake, under Rev. J. J. Balzer.
He was baptized upon his profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Aug. 3, 1902, by Rev. Christian Mueller and joined the fellowship of the Salem Zion church. He became a charter member of the Salem Mennonite church when it was organized and remained a faithful member until his departure. He was the first Sunday School superintendent of the Salem Church, and served for many years. Most of his life was spent as a Sunday School teacher. He also served as deacon during the pastorate of W. S. Gottschall, and P. R. Schroeder.
On Oct. 12, 1907 he married Katie Miller, and to this union were born three sons and one daughter. They were farmers and experienced some pioneer life by homesteading in Tripp county in 1909 and 1910.
In 1929 he was stricken with heart trouble which caused him to be bedfast for about a year, however through time, faith and prayer he fully recovered. In 1955 he suffered a stroke from which time on his health gradually failed. He passed away on June 20, 1960 at the Freeman Hospital at the age of 75 years and nine months.
He leaves his wife, Katie, three sons, Ted, Clifford, and Reinhardt; three daughters-in-law and six grandchildren. One daughter Harriet preceded him on Aug. 19, 1918. Also preceding him in death were six brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held June 23, at 2:00 p.m., in the Salem Mennonite Church, Rev. J. Herbert Fretz officiating.
